DWA-Freedom of Speech
Colin Kaepernick is a quarterback in the 49ers who was the first to refuse to stand up during the national anthem. In sources A,B,C explains how people support and believe that he is doing the right thing. The articles also explain how people oppose to what he is doing. NFL players could take a knee during the national anthem because it is their opinion, their rights and how they want to change the community.
First of all, NFL players could take a knee during the national anthem based on their opinions. Colin Kaepernick believes that they were offended because they were a different color. In source A the Colin states that,” I’m not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that opposes black people and people of color… To me, this is bigger than football and it will be selfish of my part to look the other way.” Colin Kaepernick believes that United States is showing injustice to all colored people there is.They show that colored people are worthless. He also believes that if he ignores this it will be selfish because they won’t pick on him for his fame and money. The people believe this is offensive for being disrespectful for those who risk their lives for their country. The author states that “ Denver Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall, who also knelt during the national anthem, said” the message is I’m against social injustice I’m not against the military police or America at all.” The message they are trying to say is to stop social injustice . Rather than disrespecting the United States of America. The NFL players believe that social injustice should stop and this is why they knee during the national anthem as a sign of silent protest.
In addition, the NFL players could take a knee because they all have rights. They all think that the government is doing something wrong with the rights that they have, The author explains that,” When a person believes the United States of AMerica is not living up to its ideals of freedom, liberty, and justice for all, refusing to stand for the national anthem is appropriate and justified.”  If someone feels that U.S.A is not living up to its ideals they have the right to protest in this case have the right to knee down during thenational anthem. The ideals of freedom give us the right to protest when we want. They can also do this because we are stating freedom of speech. The author states that,” A letter signed by 35 U.S veterans stated that,” Far from disrespecting troops, there is no form for appreciation for our sacrifice than for Americans to enthusiastically exercise their freedom of speech.” The veterans think they have the right to knee to the national anthem because they are practicing freedom of speech. They can’t do anything about it because it is constitutional. The only part that they are against is disrespecting troops. This way nobody can do anything about it because it is freedom of speech which is constitutional.
Finally, NFL players could take a knee because they want to change the community. They want to make a difference were everybody is equal. In source A NFL  commissioner Roger Goodell says that,” NFL Commissioner ROger Goodell disagreed with those actions, but later said;” I truly respect our players wanting to speak out and change our community… We want them to use that voice” HE believes that they are doing the right thing to because their speaking out for injustice. This way they change the community by being all equal fair to each other. They all want to change how things run. The author says that,” We wanted to draw attention to the fact that there’s things in this country that still need to change.” NFL players believe that the community has a few conflicts there still needs to be changed. This is why they make the silent protest by kneeling down during the national anthem,This is what makes them want to protest.
In conclusion, NFL players have all the rights to knee during the national anthem by having their own opinion, rights, and to be able to change their community. We should all take thought to his to make difference in community and have less conflicts.
The Crucible
Most witches are thought of being a fictional character but in Salem, Massachusetts they were thought to be real. The Salem Witch trials began in the year 1692 and 20 prosecutions were on play. The real reason of the Salem witch trials was based on a group of girls pretending to be possessed just like the play.Arthur Miller, author of the play,“The Crucible,” wrote a theatrical play on historical fiction. Arthur Miller wrote the play to show what had happened in the Salem Witch trials and what people are capable of. The Puritan New England setting of the play,”The Crucible”, develops the characters through their internal and external conflicts which makes the community change over time, from jealousy with the community, to the accusations against each other, and finally the regret and realization that occurs in the end.
To begin with, there are general reasons how characters change internally and externally in different ways. Some changes could be drastic in a way that might change the character entirely.  In the play conflicts occur to certain characters that completely change the community with his or her beliefs. Jealousy however, can be main reason that conflicts change the play in a way that impacted the community to rebel against each other. An example of this occurs when one of the main character says,“Oh, marvel how such a strong man may let such a sickly wife be-”(Miller 7). In other words, it claims that Abigail is clearly jealous of Elizabeth Proctor who in this case is  John Proctor's wife. This applies to characters changing over time because Abigail used to be an innocent girl until she fell in love with Proctor and had an affair which lead her to become jealous of Elizabeth. This can contribute to the changes in the community that imply to the witch trials because Abigail manipulated everyone in the village to her favor. For example, when Abigail states, “No, this is your wife pleading, your sniveling, envious wife!” (Miller 46). On the other hand, Abigail shows her jealousy once again with her use of descriptive words used in the quote. In spite Abigail’s love for Proctor, he regrets his affairs with her. In conclusion, the internal and external conflicts in the community affect people’s relationship with one another.
Due to many character changes, internally and externally, affect the  community around. When John Proctor had affairs with Abigail he realized how many sins he had broken and regrets the done that has happened. In example of why John Proctor states is,“Abby, I may think of you softly from time to time. But I will cut off my hand before I’ll ever reach for you again. Wipe it out of mind. We never touched, Abby.” In other words, this shows john proctor's anger in what he has done and regret to make him change as a character. One of the main character states, “PROCTOR, his eyes full of tears: I can. And there’s your first marvel, that I can. You have made your magic now, for now I do think I see some shred of goodness in John Proctor.” This means that John Proctor has made his decision in life to cover all the regret in his life by accepting the death penalty. At last, John Proctor has a relief at what he has done through regret.

In spite of Abigail and John Proctor’s change in character drastically, Reverend Paris had realized through both internal and external conflicts in the community that made him change as a character. To sum up, Reverend Paris and John Proctor had never liked one another, and since they have accused Elizabeth Proctor as a witch he despite’s him even more. The play claims,“ PARIS: It is not for you to say what is good for you to hear! PROCTOR: I may speak my heart, I think!”. This shows each others hate between them two beginning of the play. In the play it claims, “Judge Hawthorn—it were another sort that hanged till now. Rebecca Nurse is no Bridget that lived three year with Bishop before she married him. John Proctor is not Isaac Ward that drank his family to ruin.” In this quote Reverend Paris
expresses his feelings of regret towards John Proctor after his niece Abigail steals his money and makes him think through the witchcraft scenario. Dan forth continues, “ I would to God it were not so, Excellency, but these people have great weight yet in the town. Let Rebecca stand upon the gibbet and send up some righteous prayer, and I fear she’ll wake a vengeance on you.” This means that Reverend Paris has learned to love John Proctor and to realize his mistake in hating him
To conclude, the general idea in a character may vary in different situations. The community around changes the character by jealousy, regret, and realization. This impacts the play in a way that the characters change  the Salem Witch trials overall. Through jealousy between Abigail, the regret in John Proctor and the realization in Reverend Paris changed the overall plot.

                                                                                                      Freedom
Same sex-marriages are often discriminated, but does a baker have a right to refuse to use his skills to bake a cake for these couples. In the article of New York Times a baker will not bake a cake for gay couple, David Mullins and Charlie Craig, based on his religious beliefs. Jack Phillips has the right  to refuse to bake a cake for a gay couple based on his ethical beliefs, rights, and his business.
To begin with, the baker refuses to bake a cake for the gay couple based on his beliefs. The baker doesn't want to bake it because he says it is violating his christian faith. In the article “ Cake is His ‘Art’ . So Can He Deny One to a Gay Couple.” it states that , “ Five years ago, in a decision that has led to a Supreme Court showdown, he refused to use his skills to make a wedding cake to celebrate a same-sex marriages, saying it would violate his Christian faith and hijack his right to express himself.” His religion believes that there should not be same sex-marriages. If they make him do it they are abusing his right to express his opinion. As noted in paragraph 7,” I’m being forced to use my creativity, my talents and my art for an event - a significant religious event - that violates my religious faith,” Mr. Philips said.”  This should be protected by the first amendment because it is his way of religion and expression. They can’t force someone to violate their religion unless they abuse his rights.
In addition, the baker has the right to refuse who to serve and who not to serve. The gay couple believes that they should be attended. The author states that,” But when the Supreme Court hears the case this fall, the arguments will mostly center on a different part of the First Amendment: its protection of free speech.”  The first amendment has freedom of speech because the baker is expressing what he thinks should be done. The way that he sees it he won’t bake a cake that will go against his religious ways or his opinions. In the article it states that, “ They say, for instance, that many business run on religious principles have free speech right to violate laws that forbid discrimination against gay men and lesbians.” This protects other people like the baker to be protected from getting punished to refuse to make their cake. This way the gay couple can’t accuse the baker for discrimination when he was just saying his opinions.
Finally, the baker should be protected because it is his business. He made the bakery to show his art through the cakes he makes which cannot be forced by people. In the article it says that,” The government can no more force Philipps to speak to those messages with his lips than to express them through his art.” the brief said.” The government cannot be force the baker to bake a cake celebrating a gay couples marriage rather than saying it with his own words. They should make sure the baker has his right to freedom of speech in his business. Mr. Philips states that, “ Everybody that comes in my door is welcomed here, and any of the products I normally sell I’m glad to sell to anybody. But a custom-made wedding cake is another matter, he said.” He will not refuse to serve anyone that comes in his business, but in his opinion he cannot make a custom-made wedding cake that goes against his opinions. He believes that a woman and man a should be together if a man and a man are together that is violating his faith. He made his business on his own and based on his religions beliefs.
In conclusion, the baker had all the right to refuse to bake a cake for a gay couple. The baker should be protected by the constitution by what he is doing. This way when this happens again there won’t be a dispute because all business man or woman should have the rights to refuse who to serve and who not to serve.
                                                                                      Junk Food in schools?
Junk food has caused people a wide variety of problems throughout the years. Junk food in school has raised up the number of people that are overweight or obese. It is thought that in 2018 43% of the U.S. population will be obese and all those people will need medical attention. Due to junk food, one -third of kids are born with diabetes and kids to have a shorter lifespan than their parents. This has been supported by an info graphic by eating disorder pro.com and by a Source A “ This is why schools should ban junk food.” States should ban junk food in schools because it causes child obesity and money issues.
First of all, junk food should be banned from schools because it increases child obesity. Child obesity leads to health complications. In the article, “The New York Times Up Front”, written by The News Magazine for Teens. It emphasizes that “Poor eating habits develop at an early age lead to a lifetime of real health consequences.” This means that junk food is replaced more and more with nutritious alternatives. Kids develop healthy habits by eating snacks with high fat and sugar. In the article, “The New York Times UpFront”, written by The News Magazine for Teens. It states, “Nearly 300,000 people die each year from complications associated with being obese or overweight.” This means that the more junk foods you eat, the more risks you get of health crises. Obesity is a health epidemic around the country. Our responsibility is to ensure the people around us to make healthier decisions. Schools should adopt junk-food ban to reduce the rising obesity rates and money issues.      In addition, junk food causes lots of money issues. All across the world, people would most likely spend on junk food rather than spending on vegetables. In “Source C: Norton Center Info-graphic” it states, “ By 2018 the U.S. will spend $344,000,000,000 on obesity-related healthcare costs, which equals the cost of 13,835,959.4 years of college education or the cost of 4,047,058,830 tickets to Disney World.” Instead of spending our money on this we could have spent it on things our state really needs. We could also send this money to save other people’s lives. The info-graphic says, “ In 2011 Americans spent $168,000,000 on fast food, this leads to the same amount of money we spent in obesity-related medical expenses on nearly enough money to end world hunger!” While people were enjoying fast food and spending all of that money, we could have stopped world hunger all across the world. That was 6 years ago, just imagine how many people we could have saved by now and how much money we’ve spent. Junk food has caused us big money issues.      In conclusion, we believe that child obesity and money issues are important problems that should contribute to stopping schools from allowing junk food. In our everyday lives, we witness at least one person who is overweight so schools should at least lay the foundation of healthy habits.
                                                                                                  Google
Google is one of the most successful websites on the internet, but is it making us smart or less intelligent. In Sources A,B,and C it explains ways that it is making us smart or less smart. Google is making less smarter due to changing our ways of thinking, being a  distraction, and  not making us able to memorize information.

First of all, google makes us less intelligent by changing our ways of thinking. We believe that if we need something we just search it up and get the answer. In the place of books now a days we use google to search up our answers.  In Source C the author writes that,” With search engines available all the time, we often don’t encode the information internally, because when we need it, we will look it up on the internet.” Instead of figuring out the problem we just end up searching it up. This is becoming a habit.  This becomes a habit by making it easier to search it up rather than find the answer in a book. People will most likely go to the computer to substitute a book which is more time consuming to find the answer in.  In Source C the author writes,” With the Internet everything is just a click away when we don’t know something, we are primed to turn to the computer to‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ rectify the situation.” This should stop. If there is an easier way most likely everyone would use it, but this way is making us less intelligent.  It is better to find it in a book other than searching it up and finding false information or getting into the habit. If we find the answer in a book we will actually remember the information. This way google makes us less intelligent by changing our mindset to immediately search up the answer.
In Addition, this is making us less intelligent by being a distraction. We are always using electronic devices this would most likely cause us to get distracted with other things in the website. While we are searching up information at least 5 or 6 ads pop up this gets our attention really quick.  The author states that,” The Net bombards us with messages and other bits of data, and every one of those interruptions breaks our train of thought.” As we are reading a article all of sudden a message pops up we get distracted and read it. While we do this our mind breaks the train of thought. This way we forget what we read. Instead of remembering the information we end up remembering the site we found it on. Using our electronics to much we get more distracted. The author says that,” When we use our computers and our cellphones all the time, we’re always distracted.” Once we start using our electronics devices we get distracted with all of the messages and advertisements there is. This way we do other things that we are not supposed to be doing. In such a way we forget what we’re supposed to be doing. If we keep on getting distracted we wouldn't learn anything new.          Finally, google makes us less intelligent by making our memory forget things. While we read our article we get distracted with something else that pop up we immediately forget what we were reading or doing. This makes us forget a lot of things even our own personal phone numbers. The author explains that ,” A recent study ( you’re probably forgotten by now ) suggest 90 percent of us are from digital amnesia. More than 70 percent don’t know their own children’s phone number by heart, and 49 percent have not memorized their partner’s phone number.”  People are forgetting their own family phone numbers and more people can’t be without electronics. This way we use our electronics more daily without remembering what we just did. Using  our electronics does not makes us learn anything we just remember the site. The author says that,” We remember less through knowing information itself than by knowing where the information can be found.” This explains how we forget the information, but remember the site we found the information. Instead of learning new things we just remember the cities we always find the information from. This is really bad because it makes us less intellIgent.                                                                                                                                                                            In conclusion, does make us less intelligent by changing our ways of thinking, being a distraction, and not being able to memorize information. Instead of using your computer next time use a book to actually learn some new knowledge. If we use a book we will learn new things.
